Moderating Tournaments
What are Tournament Moderators?
So that Trinity3 remains a safe and enjoyable place to be, moderation of tournaments is required. A good moderator can effectively communicate with tournament participants, support efficient operations and resolve disputes in a timely manner. At the point of its creation, an organiser will automatically be assigned as a moderator of their tournament. Subsequently:
Organisers can moderate tournaments themselves, OR
Invite a friend to step in and moderate the tournament for them.
When inviting someone to moderate a tournament, an organiser can send a request to any gamer on the Trinity3 platform. More than one moderator can be assigned to a tournament, or organisers can opt to moderate their own tournament, while also participating. Once a moderator has been invited to govern your tournament, they will be notified accordingly. Their invitation will appear in the 'pending' status until they have accepted or declined your invitation for moderation. Please note that organisers can only invite a user to moderate their tournament two times. If a second invitation is withdrawn by the organiser, or if the recipient chooses to decline the invitation again, you cannot send another moderation request to the user for the tournament in question. The key responsibilities of a tournament moderator are:
Stamping out any toxicity between players, and ensuring that the tournament remains a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.
Answering any questions that participants may have, either in the tournament chat or within match chats.
Prompting tournament participants to 'ready up' for their round, where necessary.
Investigating and resolving any disputes between participants, either: those lodged by participants themselves, and/or automatic disputes that arise when players submit conflicting scores.
Enforcing rules that are contained within the tournament rulebooks and disqualifying players who break the rules of the tournament.
How can I remove people from my tournament?
Organisers can remove players or teams from their tournaments via the Overview page. To do this, expand the profile of a player or team and select โremoveโ. Similarly, moderators who are assigned to oversee the tournament can also remove players.
Who can moderate a community organiser's tournament? And what makes a good moderator?
When inviting someone to moderate a tournament, an organiser can send a request to any gamer on the Trinity3 platform. More than one moderator can be assigned to a tournament, or organisers can opt to moderate their own tournament, while also participating. Foremost, moderation requires impartiality and integrity - especially when the moderator is also participating in the tournament itself. Moderators should be ready to respond to questions and disputes quickly so that players are not unfairly penalised. Good moderators should also: 1. Embody the spirit of esports and competitive gaming by encouraging participants to play fairly, authentically and respectfully while having an out-of-this-galaxy gaming experience. 2. Be aware (to the best of their ability) of the nuances of tournaments before they begin: they understand the requirements of the job at hand, and how to ensure smooth operations. In all, moderators should feel accountable for the role they have accepted, for good moderators help Trinity3 to become the biggest gaming ecosystem that the world has ever seen ๐
How do I receive and respond to moderation requests?
Tournament organisers can manage their moderation invitations through the Control Centre. As a recipient of a moderation request, you will be notified via panel/email alerts (as configured in your User Settings), and should respond to the invitation through the notification panel:
Here, you can accept or decline an invitation to moderate a tournament. Alternatively, your invitation will show as 'pending' to an organiser, until you respond.
An organiser can only invite you to moderate their tournament two times. If a second invitation is withdrawn by the organiser, or you choose to decline the invitation again, the organiser cannot send another moderation request, for the tournament in question.
I accepted a moderation invitation but have since changed my mind - what should I do?
Please contact the tournament organiser to let them know that you can no longer moderate their tournament. You can do this by navigating to your in-app dashboard, selecting the 'moderator' role, choosing the tournament that you can no longer moderate, and contacting the organiser from the tournament overview.
How should moderators manage disputes?
Manual disputes can be filed by players after they have readied up for their round, via the Code Red panel in their Lobby. Players can create disputes for a variety of reasons, including: fielding ineligible teams, playing on the incorrect map, manipulating in-game mechanics, inviting another user to play with them... as appropriate, and so on. Alternatively, when players submit conflicting results at the end of a round, an automatic dispute will be triggered. Tournament moderators should manage disputes in the Control Centre by determining a final result, including (where appropriate) disqualification of a player. Please note that disputes must be addressed within five minutes of a round ending, otherwise both players who are caught in a dispute will be auto-disqualified. Alternatively, moderators can raise their own disputes against a player, and then disqualify them, if they observe behaviour that conflicts with the tournament rules.
